Curious

The pull of the undertow

The weight on every muscle

Exhaustion in body and mind.

Turn; look; go deeper;

Dig gently into the heaviness

And there is a child

Curious, sometimes lost

Under layers of accumulated experience

But still there,

With the excitement and wonder

Of the fresh and unencumbered mind

Reaching out a hand

If I remember to look for it.
